Frequently Asked Questions

Olympus Dog Training FAQs

What training methods do you use?

We use balanced, ethical training methods tailored to each dog. This includes clear communication, positive reinforcement, and fair corrections when appropriate. Our goal is to create reliable behavior while maintaining trust, confidence, and clarity for both dog and handler.

Do you use e-collars?

Yes, when appropriate. E-collars are introduced carefully and humanely as a communication tool—not a punishment. They are never used on untrained dogs and are only incorporated after a solid foundation of understanding has been established.

What age can my dog start training?

Dogs can begin training as early as 8 weeks old. We offer age-appropriate programs for puppies, adolescents, and adult dogs. It’s never too early—or too late—to start building better behavior.

Do you work with reactive or aggressive dogs?

Yes. We have experience working with leash reactivity, fear-based behaviors, anxiety, and aggression. Every dog is evaluated individually, and training plans are designed with safety, structure, and long-term success in mind.

How long does training take?

Every dog is different. Some clients see noticeable improvement within the first few sessions, while others require more time depending on the dog’s history, consistency, and goals. Training is a process, and owner participation plays a major role in success.

Will my dog be “perfect” after training?

No dog is ever “finished.” Training builds reliable skills and clear communication, but continued practice and consistency are essential. Our goal is to give you the tools and understanding to maintain your dog’s behavior long after training ends.

Do you offer group classes or private lessons?

Yes. We offer both private lessons and group classes, depending on your dog’s needs, age, and behavior level. Some dogs benefit from individualized attention, while others thrive in a controlled group environment.

What breeds do you work with?

We work with all breeds and mixed breeds. Training plans are tailored to the individual dog’s temperament, drive level, and lifestyle—not just their breed.

Do you guarantee results?

We do not guarantee specific outcomes, as dogs are living beings and long-term success depends heavily on consistency and follow-through at home. However, for clients who complete a Board and Train program, we offer lifetime follow-up support.

If a dog regresses due to a lapse in training or consistency, we provide ongoing guidance and the option for a discounted refresher Board and Train program to help get your dog back on track.

Do you offer consultations?

Yes. We offer free 30-minute consultations to discuss your dog’s behavior, training goals, and determine the best program for you.

What do I need to bring to training?

For most sessions, you’ll need a leash, a properly fitted collar, and high-value treats. Specific equipment recommendations will be discussed during your consultation.

Day Training FAQs

What Makes Our Day Training Different?

Our 3×3 and 3×6 Day Training programs are built on clarity, structure, and real-world reliability—not shortcuts.

  • Individualized training plans – Every dog is trained based on their temperament, history, and goals. We do not use a one-size-fits-all approach.
  • Clear communication, not suppression – We focus on teaching dogs how to make good choices, not just stopping unwanted behavior.
  • Ethical, balanced methods – Training tools are used fairly and responsibly, only when appropriate and only after a foundation of understanding is established.
  • Real-life integration – Dogs are trained in practical, everyday situations so behaviors transfer smoothly back to the home environment.
  • Owner education and transfer – Training doesn’t stop when your dog goes home each day. We ensure you understand how to maintain and continue the work.
  • Lifetime follow-up support – Day Training clients receive ongoing guidance, with discounted refresher options available if regression occurs due to lack of consistency.
What is a 3x3 or 3x6 Day Training program?

Our Day Training programs are an intensive, structured training option where you drop your dog off for full-day sessions from 9am–5pm, three days per week. This allows for consistent repetition, clear communication, and faster progress compared to weekly lessons alone, while your dog returns home every evening.

Who is Day Training best for?

Day Training is ideal for busy owners, dogs with behavioral challenges, dogs needing a strong obedience foundation, or owners who want intensive professional training while still having their dog home every night.

How long are the Day Training programs?

We offer two main program lengths:

  • 3×3 Day Training: 3 days per week for 3 weeks
  • 3×6 Day Training: 3 days per week for 6 weeks

Training hours are 9:00 am – 5:00 pm. You can contact Erin to work out the exact weekly schedule that fits your needs. The best option for your dog will be recommended during your free consultation. Go to the CONTACT page

What behaviors are covered?

Our Day Training programs typically include basic to advanced obedience, leash manners, impulse control, place work, and behavior modification as appropriate. Training is fully customized to each dog.

Will my dog still listen to me after Day Training?

Yes — but handler follow-through is essential. Each program includes owner transfer sessions to teach you how to maintain and continue the training. Success depends on consistency at home.

Do you use e-collars during Day Training?

When appropriate, e-collars may be introduced as a communication tool after foundational training is established. They are used ethically and fairly, never as punishment.

What happens during the training day?

Your dog spends the day (9am–5pm) in a structured, safe, and controlled environment where training is integrated into daily routines. Details about housing, routines, enrichment, exercise, and rest are provided during consultation.

Will my dog get exercise and downtime?

Yes. Training is balanced with structured rest, play, and appropriate exercise. Mental clarity and recovery are just as important as physical work.

Do you offer updates during the program?

Yes. Owners receive regular updates, which may include photos, videos, or progress summaries so you can follow your dog’s development.

Do you guarantee results?

We do not guarantee specific outcomes, as long-term success depends on owner consistency. However, all Day Training clients receive lifetime follow-up support. If a dog regresses due to a lapse in training or consistency, we offer continued guidance and discounted refresher options.

What happens after the program ends?

Each Day Training program includes owner transfer sessions to ensure you understand the commands, expectations, and maintenance work. Continued practice at home is key to lasting results.
